Hi <$firstname$>, Welcome to another edition of the Moving Mountains newsletter. This month I have created a jam packed issue for you, filled with life changing information. Feature Article : Find out why most people fail to achieve most of their goals. See you at the end... > FEATURE: Are you setting yourself up to fail?
I have been known to preach the gospel of goal setting for quite some time now. Why, you ask? Because goal setting works... Armed with a goal, you know where you are going and can adjust your course where necessary to get there. With no goal, you are LOST, destined to a life of repeating the past. Sorry for the bad news, but that's just the way life works. When I breach the subject of setting goals in my seminars, I am often met with resistance from some of my audience. I tried to figure out why this was and then it dawned on me… For many of us, we have set so many goals that we have not accomplished, that the thought of setting more goals and not accomplishing those is too depressing to entertain – hence the resistance to my motivational talks on goal setting. I have discovered an easier way to accomplish goals. A powerful alternative to goals...I was recently reading an extraordinary book by billionaire and success guru, Bill Bartmann. Bill is America's 25th wealthiest person and he has an extraordinary story I'd like to share with you.
Instead of responding to this news with self-pity, Bill promised himself that he would walk out of that hospital. So, every day, Bill began visualizing his toes moving. Just three weeks later, he moved his toes for the first time since the accident. His doctor told him that this meant nothing and that he should stop his visualization, because it was not going to work. After all, he was paralyzed... Bill was determined to keep his promise to himself and to prove his doctors wrong. To his doctors' amazement, five months later, Bill walked out of the hospital on his own two legs, completely unaided. He kept his promise. Notice that in this story, Bill did not set himself a goal. Instead, he made a promise. I have come to believe that a promise is even more powerful than a goal, because mostly, we expect to keep our promises, but so often, we don’t expect to fulfil our goals. Most of us keep far more promises than the number of goals we accomplish. This realization got me really excited. I finally understood why so many people don't accomplish their goals. It's because most people associate goals with failure. My promise...
Just two days after choosing to do this, I stood up in front of 500 people and promised them that I would be moving to an African township for one month. Having made that promise, I could not turn back. Two weeks later I found myself living in the township of Guguletu. I stayed for 6 months and I still consider this is one of the greatest things I have achieved in my lifetime. interestingly, I didn't accomplish it through setting a goal. I achieved it by making a powerful promise. This evening, I turned all my goals into promises. Promises much harder to break, especially if you have other people holding you accountable to those promises. Now, its your turn... This month, I challenge you to do the same and let me know your results. Notice how different it feels to make a promise vs. set a goal. If you are not willing to promise your goal, you will probably not accomplish it.
May the force be with you... > COOL NEW PRODUCTS: Sit Back, Relax, and Attract!
The ESSENTIAL missing companion to the hit movie, THE SECRET!
Did you know that the average human being cannot hold a thought for more than 6 seconds at a time? Last Year on New Years Eve, I sat around a table with five close friends and we all set our goals for 2007. One of mine was to have the book that I am writing about my experience living in an African township, reach no. 1 on the NY Times bestseller list. So far, it is half way through 2007 and I have not yet completed my book. However, a few weeks ago, a miracle occurred. I was asked to submit a five page version of my story to be featured in a compilation of Gratitude stories called Thank God I... The story will be featured next to stories from other great teachers like John Di Martini and Rev. Michael Beckwith, both featured in the hit movie, The Secret. The publishers of the book tell me that this book is going to be even BIGGER than The Secret. When that happens, the story will reach no.1 on the NY Times bestseller list and another of my goals for 2007 will be accomplished, in a most miraculous way.. Read more about it on my blog...
